This U.S. Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) is a 1 percent sample of all households and persons in the United States, taken from the 2000 Census. Each record in the data file is a person. All of the corresponding household information has been copied to the record of each person in the household. Vacant units are not included in this file.
Public-use microdata samples are computer accessible files which contain records for a sample of housing units, with information on the characteristics of each unit and the people in it. Information which would identify a household or an individual is excluded, in order to protect the confidentiality of respondents. Within the limits of the sample size and geographic detail, these files allow users to prepare virtually any tabulations they require.
